亞馬遜創始人貝佐斯以2.5億美元收購《華盛頓郵報》的消息引起廣泛關注。第二天，《紐約客》卻報導稱：『這根本就是個誤會！這全是因為貝佐斯在電腦前的誤操作，他只是不小心點錯了滑鼠而已。』這家媒體的報導隨之被許多不明真相的媒體轉載，殊不知，這條新聞刊登在假新聞專欄，只為博大家一笑。

根據廣州日報報導，貝佐斯在接受媒體採訪時表示，所謂收購《華盛頓郵報》完全是『弄錯了』，他只是不小心點錯了滑鼠而已。他說：『我猜當時我可能在它們的主頁上隨意流覽，沒有注意到自己做了什麼。』報導稱，在這宗收購案轟動業界之後，他才意識到自己犯了什麼錯誤，並且是因為他的美國運通卡上收到了一筆2.5億美元的付款通知。

貝佐斯給客服打了電話，想解釋這個誤會，但『他們只是隨便搪塞了我幾句……，我一直在解釋，我真的不知道發生了什麼。但是現在看來好像沒這麼容易「退貨」』。
