美國老大哥監控疑雲一樁接一樁，全球最大廣告公司WPP PLC執行長Martin Sorrell 24日指出，情搜指控可能重創美國形象，也會對廣告業造成衝擊。

華爾街日報報導，Sorrell訪談中表示，監控風波不利美國品牌；倘若德國總理也遭竊聽，不管是真是假，光有跡象就已經糟糕透頂。想像一下，競爭對手法國陽獅集團(Publicis Groupe SA)執行長Maurice Levy打電話給他，向他保證沒有監聽，或是相反過來，事態相當嚴重。

德國23日指控美國情治單位涉及竊聽德國總理梅克爾手機，外長更召見美國駐德大使，表達不滿。

WPP客戶包括聯合利華(Unilever)、福特汽車(Ford Motor)等。Sorrell說，近來的監控風暴不只可能衝擊政治和商業；民眾也會對廣告業蒐集資料的方式更有疑慮。他強調，客戶非常擔憂。

如今廣告業多會考量民眾網路搜尋紀錄和購物習慣，分析資料，針對不同客層，推出個人化廣化。監聽醜聞後，大眾將更憂慮資料搜集的合法性，也更關注個人隱私。
