根據知情人士透露，芝加哥小熊將在美國時間週四介紹Rick Renteria為新任總教練，假使消息屬實，Renteria將成為今年球季結束後，第4位新手總教練。

現年51歲的Renteria，從1998年開始在馬林魚小聯盟體系執教，2003年轉任教士小聯盟打擊教練，小聯盟執教經驗豐富，2011年轉任教士板凳教練，Renteria更是2013年世界棒球經典賽，墨西哥國家代表隊的總教練。

Renteria打敗了競爭者，包括A.J. Hinch、 Manny Acta、 Dave Martinez及Eric Wedge，不過，先前有報導指出，小熊不得與其他候選人進行面試，像是紅襪隊的Torey Lovullo，原因是小熊在2011年從紅襪找來Theo Epstein後，便和紅襪訂下協議。

小熊會選擇Renteria理由，包括他是很好的導師、善於溝通，會說西班牙語對小熊來說也是個助力，知情人士表示，球隊傾向於找拉丁美洲籍總教練或是教練，填補先前教練團所欠缺的部份。
