大陸賣淫活動向來猖獗，大陸政府雖一直嚴厲打擊，唯成效未彰。據統計目前大陸有四百萬至六百萬名性工作者，分布在各省市的髮廊、按摩院及卡拉OK酒吧等，亦有滲透至飯店賓館等尋找生意。

外國客投訴騷擾頻密

據愛卡汽車網報導，大批外國旅客在國外論壇表示，入住酒店後曾多次被打房間電話甚至上門敲門詢問是否需要性服務。以山東青島為例，有旅客稱只是登記入住數分鐘，已有身穿迷你裙女郎敲門兜搭生意，聲稱可以優惠價提供按摩或性服務。他當面拒絕後未夠一小時，即有另一名女性上門再次勾搭，令他大感詫異。有旅客亦投訴，酒店房間不時都有妓女致電，特別是單人入住的男性住客尤其頻密，他們不明白為何妓女可鎖定他們單人出遊的情況，質疑酒店或與性工作者有聯繫串通。
