馬英九總統「賀誼專案」過境紐約，正好遇上「七夕」情人節，由於夫人周美青沒有隨行，馬總統只能獨自重遊兩人相戀到結婚的紐約大學憶當年，12日（美東時間）還特別在紐大撥電話給周美青，但似乎遭到「酷酷嫂」的冷回應。
周美青9日飛抵愛丁堡，以榮譽團長身分率領當代傳奇劇場參加2013愛丁堡國際藝術節，沒能陪同馬總統出訪。
馬英九在出訪機上受訪表示，因為過去曾在紐約住過兩年半，朋友、老師、同學都非常多，7年沒回母校紐約大學，這次會回去重遊一下。
談到跟夫人周美青在紐約談戀愛的過往，總統表示，「那時候真的很甜蜜」。
有隨行電視記者追問，那現在不甜蜜嗎？馬英九笑答，「你怎麼這樣問我？」最後補一句「現在也甜蜜！」現場一陣笑聲。
總統認為，周美青現在英國帶她的活動，這樣很好。
馬總統12日訪紐大時，特地打電話給周美青，據「聯晚」報導，電話那頭回應後，總統先是「啊」了一聲，並說明為何打電話，最後對周美青說「好好好，你先忙」，然後掛上電話，似乎遭到「酷酷嫂」的冷回應，氣氛有點尷尬。
紐大校長薩克斯頓（John Sexton）也與周美青在電話中寒暄了大約3到5分鐘。
