新北市長朱立倫美西時間9日上午10時與舊金山市長李孟賢（Edwin Lee）共同簽署友好城市備忘錄，兩人強調將共同推動兩市文化、教育、經濟、觀光等更多層面的合作與交流，持續鞏固兩市友誼，朱立倫指出，這次簽署備忘錄希望為兩市人民創造互利合作機會。

舊金山市長李孟賢（Edwin Lee）及夫人Anita Lee曾在2010年12月間來台觀光，對新北市淡水區的人文及風情留下深刻的印象；朱立倫去年7月出訪美國姊妹市辛辛那提市時，應邀到舊金山市政府拜會市長李孟賢（Edwin Lee），在去年的會晤中，兩人對於招商、促進就業、交通、水資源及環保、教育資源、垃圾清運及稅賦等重大議題交換意見。

新北市政府指出，這次簽署的備忘錄希望為兩市人民在互利合作，教育、經濟與文化上創造合作機會。新北市和舊金山市郡人民藉由友誼，支持和鼓勵互惠互利之實際交流機會。期能達到維護雙方友誼關係、交換市政經驗、鼓勵互訪觀摩及促進教育、體育、文化、觀光與經貿的交流與合作目標。

朱立倫在簽署儀式中致詞表示，代表近400萬新北市民感謝舊金山友人的熱情，促成更多雙城交流；李孟賢也希望透過簽署儀式，開啟更多合作，讓舊金山市民學習更多的成功經驗，讓大家更瞭解新北市、瞭解台灣，尤其應促使兩市的年輕一代能有更多接觸。
