日經新聞22日報導，全球最大中小尺寸面板廠「Japan Display Inc(以下簡稱JDI)」已研發出一款全球最小的4K面板、其尺寸為12.1吋，並計劃於2014年進行量產，主要將應用於平板電腦上；目前全球最小的平板用4K面板為Panasonic研發的20吋產品。

報導指出，JDI研發的12.1吋平板用4K面板的畫素達365ppi、耗電力僅有現行面板的1/4、且藉由將背光變薄故面板厚度可縮減至2mm，預估除了一般消費性平板市場之外，JDI也期望藉由該款4K面板產品搶攻醫療、教育等高畫質平板市場。

據報導，目前JDI的核心產品以智慧手機用面板為主、佔整體營收比重超過50%以上，而平板用面板所佔的比重僅6%左右，惟JDI期望藉由活用於今年6月開始進行量產的茂原工廠(見附圖)6代新產線，擴大平板用面板訂單。
