預言又起？！原本盛傳2012年12月21日將是世界末日，最後並未成真。不過，美國航太總署(NASA)科學家發現，一顆編號「1950 DA」的小行星，正以每秒15公里的速度，朝著地球方向飛來，預測可能在2880年3月16日撞上地球。

根據英國《每日郵報》(Daily Mail)報導，科學家發現，這顆小行星直徑約為1.07公里，每2.1小時會自轉1次，且其旋轉的速度超越其他同體積的小行星。而目前這顆「1950 DA」，正以每秒15公里速度移近地球。

報導稱，科學家預測，「1950 DA」可能於2880年3月16日撞向地球，雖然機率只有0.3%，但已比其他小行星高出一半。若是科學家預測準確，到時「1950 DA」將會穿過大氣層，以一小時6萬公里的速度衝落大西洋，撞擊威力相當於448億公噸的TNT(黃色炸藥)。

另外，科學家還模擬「1950 DA」撞擊地球時的情況，若是它撞上紐約市，將會摧毀附近160公里範圍以內的物體。NASA也發現，共有1千4百顆小行星可能會撞上地球，目前正密切監看它們的移動路徑，並評估其相撞的機率。
