根據36氪報導，從此之後，Google的兩大系統Chrome和Android分別有了各自對應的『客廳設備』，Chromecast 和Google TV。相信不少人會心存疑問：為什麼Google會在有Google TV之後再推出像Chromecast的產品？在會後的訪談上，安卓、Chrome以及應用部門的高級副總裁Sundar Pichai就這兩個產品之間的區別做出了一番解釋。
Google TV，盡管使用者寥寥，卻被Pichai委以重任，他希望在明年的CES上能為這個電視版的安卓宣布更多的合作伙伴：『它將成為完全電視化的安卓』。在Pichai看來，Google TV和Chromecast的最大區別就是前者的『沉浸式』體驗更適合進行遊戲，而只有256k記憶體的Chromecast顯然無法勝任。那麼為什麼要做這樣一個功能如此單一的設備呢？
因為要鼓勵用戶在客廳電視上觀看互聯網內容並培養起這個習慣，Pichai說：『透過手機、平板和筆記本觀看的影片數量大得驚人，可是電視機的使用量卻停滯不前。』『然而電視機卻是美國家庭使用最多的家電，平均每戶4.5個小時。這就是缺口，你必須想個法子把它補上。』他補充到，易用性至關重要，『用戶不會想要買一個用法複雜的昂貴機頂盒。』
『Chromecast是個簡單有效的網頁媒體播放器。通過互聯網的支持，當你想要播放一段YouTube或Netflix影片時，這些內容就通過Wi-Fi被發送到電視上。』開發團隊內部把這個過程成為 『flinging』，拋射。Flinging是為影片和音樂應用準備的功能，Google鼓勵開發者把這個功能內置到app裡。Google還將在未來幾個月內測試Chromecast的『Mirroring』鏡像功能。在鏡像功能的支持下，用戶可將任何設備的螢幕傳輸到電視機上。
Pichai表示這些功能不僅適用於Chromecast，Google TV也將會有它自己的Google Cast。
