【施旖婕／綜合外電報導】英國一名男子，患上罕見的普洛提斯症候群(Proteus syndrome)，骨頭及皮膚不正常生長，讓他被迫困在家中、無法出門。
24歲的史密斯(Robert Smith)，重102公斤，身高213公分，但仍在長高，而且有眼疾、耳疾、水腦症及癲癇症，至今已做過74次手術。他3年前患上腦膜炎，昏迷7周後，便無法再行走，又於他身軀龐大，66歲母親也無法推他外出，過去3年來他只外出4次。家人正為他籌款8000英鎊(約新台幣37萬元)，以購買輪椅，希望讓他重獲自由。
