潭美颱風暴風圈還沒登陸，造成新竹縣市多起交通事故，新竹縣、市長分別到各地關心，並指示務必做好整備工作，新竹市更備上萬個沙包供民眾24小時領用、新竹縣對各收容所，要求確保物資儲備量達7日以上。
新竹市昨晚宣布，今日正常上班上課；新竹縣則除尖石、五峰兩鄉停班停課，其餘11鄉鎮市上午照常上班、上課，下午停課停班與否？再視狀況。

| 人字形、磚牆形 疊沙包有訣竅

潭美颱風預估帶來豪雨，北市府準備1萬7688個沙包供索取，常見民眾層層疊高沙包，積水仍從縫隙流入。其實沙包堆疊方式、高度、位置，都有訣竅，正確疊才能製成簡易擋水牆。
市府新工處表示，堆疊沙包有兩種方式：一是「人字形」，上下兩排堆疊方式相異，第一排若往全部右斜45度堆疊，第二排要全部往左斜45度堆疊，兩排形狀交叉。
