中國外交部長王毅元旦在其外交部官網撰文「繼往開來，努力構建中美新型大國關係—紀念中美建交35周年」，強調兩國應在三個「聯合公報」和過去所達成的共識基礎上，增進戰略互信、持續加強溝通與協調，以相互尊重來管控中美間的分歧。問題是，從去年雙方關係發展的軌跡與日益升高的戰略矛盾來看，很難對今年的中美新型大國關係有太樂觀期待。
