Pinterest上圖片雖精美但也讓人眼花繚亂，長期以來用戶對這些圖片都有這樣的困惑：這圖片精美如此，出自誰之手？圖上到底是什麼東西？今天，Pinterest推出了圖片的背景資訊追溯功能。它剛剛與Getty Images建立了合作關係，透過接入Getty Images的海量元資料庫，Pinterest允許用戶獲取圖片相關的攝影師、日期、創作地點、描述文本等資訊。Pinterest還表示，與Getty Images的合作『只是剛剛開始』，這意味著後續會有更多的新功能推出。

據36氪網報導，這樣一來，用戶在看圖片時就能搞清楚圖片中所用素材的『真實身份背景』，比如一道很難辨認的扇貝包菜，此外，Pinterest還會隨即推薦相應的菜譜。當然，這個『圖片起底策略』的最大受益者還是圖片所有者和看好Pinterest廣告潛力的投資方。依託圖片豐富的背景資訊，用戶能更好地了解自己想要買的東西，而廣告商則能獲得更多用戶的興趣資料，這些資料想必會是推薦行為（原生廣告）發生的重要依據。

Pinterest 說獲取Getty Images的資料須支付一定費用，但考慮到Pinterest38億的估值和近來2.25億美元的融資，它還真不差錢。今(2013)年三月份它推出了流量監控工具，10月初又推出『Promoted pins』，看來，Pinterest已經開啟了它循序漸進的變現道路。
