The launch of HTC's New HTC One Google Edition and Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S4 Google Edition by Google on June 26 through Google Play highlights Google's attempt to further strengthen its online retail channel by tying up with branded vendors, according to Digitimes Research.
Additionally, Google has also reportedly been investing in or financing construction of wireless network infrastructure projects in emerging markets in southern Africa and Southeast Asia, and the Internet search engine company is also cooperating with a number of wireless network service providers to build a business ecosystem based on cost-effective Android connected devices.
Given that global shipments of Android handsets and tablets by second-tier and white-box makers are expected to reach 300-400 million units in 2013, Google has also been trying to solicit these makers to have their devices verified by Google, and therefore are allowed to preload Google Play and Google GMS legally in advance.
Google is expected to sell inexpensive Android connected devices through Google Play or other Google associated or subsdized physical retail channels, and also to allow users in emerging markets to access wireless networks built or funded by Google, Digitimes Research commented.
